Supported by members of the 1st Markfield Parent and Community Support Group, Leaders, County Advisors and Scout HQ, you will help us to become more accessible to all. Accessibility is providing a space that is usable for everyone, regardless of abilities, literacy or experience.

Scouting is designed to be flexible to support all young people to take part, achieve and reach their full potential. When joining a Section, the young person is joining the Group and should be encouraged to progress through Scouting with their peers. All volunteers should make reasonable adjustments so that Scouts is inclusive and accessible to everyone.

Reasonable adjustments should respond to the needs of the individual and remove or reduce any barriers or support access, by making changes to;

  • Physical environment (eg. the meeting place)
  • The way things are done( eg. age range flexibility, the programme, routines)
  • The support provided (eg. equipment, adapting communication, the level of support

You can find out more about the Scouts Inclusion and Diversity support at https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/inclusion-and-diversity/.

What does the role involve?

  • Supporting the Group (including the Parent and Community Support Group, Leaders and Group Scout Leader) to become more inclusive and accessible to all.
  • Support the Group Scout Leader to create and maintain a Group Inclusivity Plan, particularly to highlight any actions that need addressing and ensuring that these remain on the agenda.

Do I need any experience?

We are looking for someone passionate about supporting accessibility and inclusivity. You may have personal experience of or know someone who requires reasonable adjustments. You might have some responsibility of similar tasks in your daily work life. Whatever your experience, you won’t ever be alone – you will also be supported the support group, group scout leader and scouts HQ.

What if this isn’t right for me?

You will be supported at every step of your journey and if you decide that this isn’t right for you, that ok. There are lots of other ways to volunteer.
