Our Scout Hut is in need of some TLC. We need someone who can support the group to ensure that the building and grounds are being looked after, are safe and can support scouting activity for years to come.

You can find out more about supporting running a scout hut at https://www.scouts.org.uk/volunteers/running-things-locally/your-scout-building/.

What does the role involve?

  • Carry out appropriate risk assessments and effectively communicate controls to all users of the premises.
  • Make sure controls are in place, and are coordinated and monitored.
  • Make sure that all repairs are carried out in a safe and timely manner.
  • Make sure premises risk assessments are in place, documented, communicated and reviewed at least annually.

The Safe Scouting Premises Audit is a great place to start with making sure you have the right systems and processes in place to keep your premises safe.

The role doesn’t necessary mean you are the person doing all everything – but instead co-ordinating the activity and being the central point of contact to ensure everything is up-to-date.

Do I need any experience?

We are looking for someone who is organised and can coordinate activity – you could do this from home, at any time. You might have some responsibility of similar tasks in your daily work life. Whatever your experience, you won’t ever be alone – you will also be supported the support group, group scout leader and scouts HQ.

What if this isn’t right for me?

You will be supported at every step of your journey and if you decide that this isn’t right for you, that ok. There are lots of other ways to volunteer.
