Every Scout Group has an support group or executive. Like a board of governors in a school; it essentially makes sure that the best quality Scouting is delivered to young people in the group. The volunteers that make up the support group give their time to ensure that Scouting continues to meet its charitable purpose: safely and legally.

Who can be a member of the support group?

Currently we are made up of leaders and parents, but anyone with an interest in Scouting can volunteer subject to a few checks and regulations.

How much time does it take?

Meetings are usually held every 3-4 months. You will need to attend most of these meetings (although nobody can be there every time!). Meetings usually last no more than 2 hours and are informal, usually involving tea, coffee and biscuits!

What skills and experience do I need?

All members have different skills to offer, come from different backgrounds and have varying experiences. This helps to ensure a variety of perspectives and a more rounded and effective support group.

How I can get involved?

If you’re joining as a Scouts volunteer for the first time, we will help you complete the following steps:

  • Talk to you about what the role is
  • Get your role created on Compass (the membership database)
  • Complete your Disclosure (DBS in England)
  • Sign the trustee declaration
  • Support you with your learning for the role
